We are extremely proud to announce Dr Fiona Foley as the 2020 recipient of the Capstone Editing Early Career Academic Research Grant for Women.
Dr Fiona Foley has over 30 years of experience as a practising artist and has assembled eight Aboriginal artists/scholars as part of an integrated art-led program to promote conversations across social, political and cultural boundaries around a range of critical issues.
Dr Foley is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, having graduated from her PhD in 2018. Her current project, which the Capstone Editing grant will go towards supporting, is entitled ‘Reason and Reckoning: New Aboriginal Scholarship in the Creative Arts and Writing’.
Dr Foley’s project will begin in a series of provocative public lectures, conducted by eight senior and emerging Aboriginal artist/academics scheduled for Brisbane. Art, film and law are the ties that bind this series together and disseminate knowledge with a multiplicity of Aboriginal voices and dialogues. Each will bring a new perspective to established Aboriginal scholarship with a focus on their own art, films and writing.
An expanded innovative publication will be developed following the public engagement of the lectures, which will present the new insights possible through the power of creative arts research approaches. Aboriginal scholarship is changing as new cultural provocations arise in the twenty-first century. The resulting publication, Reason and Reckoning: New Aboriginal Scholarship in the Creative Arts and Writing, will further disseminate this essential knowledge further to a general readership.
